Sangam

Sangam

Further along the highway lies one of Ladakh’s most photographed landscapes—the Sangam, where the mighty Indus River meets the Zanskar River. The confluence is remarkable because the two rivers often retain distinct colours before gradually merging downstream.

During summer, the contrast is especially visible, creating a dramatic natural spectacle. Standing above the viewpoint, one can clearly trace the meeting point of the rivers as they flow between towering mountain ranges.

This location is also the starting point for river rafting on the Zanskar and Indus rivers. During winter, the frozen Zanskar becomes the famous Chadar Trek route, one of the world’s most challenging winter expeditions.

The Sangam beautifully represents the geographical significance of Ladakh, where rivers have shaped settlements, agriculture, and trade for centuries.
