The Fort of Bikaner
The Junagarh Fort is the focus of Bikaner. Unlike most other forts in Rajasthan, it was erected amid plains and not on a hill. The fort is defended by gigantic walls, massive bastions, and huge gates.
The fort was finished in 1594 AD. It was never taken in battle. Although it was attacked at least three times. Over centuries, rulers built palaces, courtyards, and halls inside the fort, creating an architectural colossus of layered complexity embodying evolving tastes and priorities.
