Laxmi Niwas Palace

Laxmi Niwas Palace

Laxmi Niwas Palace
Later, we visited Laxmi Niwas Palace. Constructed in the early 1900s by Maharaja Ganga Singh, the palace soon boldly proclaimed its authority in red sandstone, elegant gouts of jharokhas, and bold Mughal–Rajput architectural flourishes. We strolled through its massive courtyards and colonnaded corridors and sensed the delicate dichotomy between the luxury of the royal life of Bikaner and the discipline that was associated with power. It wasn’t a ceremonial palace; it was meant to accommodate dignitaries and negotiations beneath its high ceilings.
Now the palace is a heritage hotel, though, without crossing over into theatrical nostalgia, it preserves its charm. Laxmi Niwas Palace was not so much a luxury experience as an insight into how architecture used to express power.
