Mehrangarh Fort

Mehrangarh Fort

Mehrangarh Fort
No visit to Jodhpur is complete without visiting Mehrangarh Fort. The ascent to the fort follows a steep stone pathway that winds upward through massive gates still marked by signs of historic battles.
The stone pathways feel worn by centuries of movement — soldiers, elephants, rulers, traders, and travelers all passed through these entrances.
Mehrangarh Fort is one of the largest and most imposing forts in Rajasthan. Its massive walls rise directly from the rock face, blending architecture with the surrounding geology.
The sheer height and thickness of the fortifications reflect centuries of concern over siege warfare and invasion.

Rao Jodha Ji’s Falsa
Within the fort are memorial spaces connected to Rao Jodha Ji’s Falsa, associated with traditions and rituals linked to the founding ruler of Jodhpur.
It not only serves as physical memorials but also as reminders of the city’s connection to its royal lineage and historical identity.
Among the most haunting elements found near such memorials are the terracotta and stone handprints associated with women who committed sati on the funeral pyres of their
husbands. Many of these handprints continue to survive as memorial symbols connected to historical practices of sacrifice and loyalty.
