Mehrangarh Fort Museum

Museum and the Daulat Khana Gallery
The Mehrangarh Fort Museum and the Daulat Khana Gallery contain some of the finest collections connected to the Rathore rulers and the courtly culture of Marwar.
Among the most notable objects is a grand marble throne associated with royal ceremony. Nearby are richly decorated elephant howdahs that were once mounted on royal elephants during processions and warfare.
The pinjas — enclosed palanquins used by royal women — display intricate metalwork and craftsmanship while also reflecting the strict systems of royal seclusion.
The galleries also contain swords and other weapons connected to Rajput warfare traditions.
One particularly striking object is the Makara, a small bronze cannon shaped like the mythical aquatic creature found in Indian mythology.
Some of the staircases within the fort are equally memorable. One narrow staircase descends in a teardrop-like curve through layers of stone architecture.
Above, elaborately decorated ceilings continue to draw attention upward toward the artistic detail of the interiors.
