The Kangla Fort
Kangla was the ancient capital of pre-modern Manipur and is a revered spot for the local people, reminding them of the days of their independence. It is a sacred place to the Meiteis. We saw the bungalow of Field Marshal William Slim, best known for commanding Fourteenth Army in Burma during the Second World War. The modern game of Polo is said to have originated here, As we walked around Imphal, amongst many interesting monuments, of special interest was a dedication to Netaji, by the All Manipur Students Union in 1996.
