Gurudwara Pathar Sahib

Gurudwara Pathar Sahib

A short drive beyond Magnetic Hill stands Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, one of the most significant religious sites in Ladakh. Built in memory of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s visit to the region

during the early 16th century, the gurudwara is maintained by the Indian Army and the Sikh community.

According to local tradition, Guru Nanak was meditating here when a demon pushed a massive boulder down the hill to kill him. Instead of harming him, the rock is said to have softened upon touching the Guru’s body, leaving his impression on its surface. The demon reportedly kicked the rock in anger, leaving another imprint before eventually becoming a disciple.

Today, the sacred boulder remains preserved inside the gurudwara. Visitors of all faiths are welcomed warmly, and the peaceful atmosphere, combined with the hospitality of the volunteers and soldiers, makes it one of the most memorable stops along the highway. Like every gurudwara, simple langar is served to visitors throughout the day.
