Like many Himalayan regions, Lamayuru has experienced the increasing impact of extreme weather events. Heavy rainfall and cloudbursts in recent years have triggered flash floods that damaged roads, homes, agricultural land, and tourism infrastructure around the village.
Although Ladakh is often considered a cold desert with very little rainfall, climate patterns have become increasingly unpredictable. The floods have highlighted the vulnerability of mountain communities that depend on fragile ecosystems and limited resources. Local authorities and residents have worked together to restore damaged infrastructure while adapting to changing environmental conditions.
Despite these challenges, Lamayuru continues to welcome travellers, demonstrating the resilience and determination of its people.
