Just beyond the confluence lies the picturesque village of Nimmoo, one of the oldest settlements in western Ladakh. Situated at an altitude of around 3,100 metres, the village has long served as an important stop for travellers moving between Leh, Kargil, and Kashmir.
Unlike the barren mountains surrounding it, Nimmoo is filled with green fields of barley, wheat, and vegetables. Poplar and willow trees line irrigation channels that have supported farming here for generations.
We stopped at Anil Dogra Café in Nimmoo for a refreshing break before continuing our journey through Sham Valley. The small café offered simple refreshments in a peaceful setting, making it a pleasant place to relax while taking in the surrounding mountain views. It was one of those unassuming roadside stops that added a quiet charm to our Ladakh road trip.
Traditional Ladakhi homes, whitewashed walls, and Buddhist prayer flags add to the village’s charm. Many travellers choose to stay in local homestays, offering an opportunity to experience Ladakhi hospitality and learn about agricultural life in the high Himalayas.
