Dholavira
In the vast, austere expanse of the Rann of Kutch, Dholavira is encountered as one of the most striking and best-preserved urban settlements of the Indus Valley Civilization. Unlike several other Harappan sites that were gradually buried under layers of silt or continuously inhabited and modified over centuries, Dholavira has emerged in a state that allows its original planning to be studied with unusual clarity. Its fortification walls, monumental gateways, reservoirs, and carefully articulated divisions have been excavated and analyzed, enabling the reconstruction of a highly sophisticated civilization that flourished more than four thousand years ago.
